  1. Essie Gel Couture, $13, won Best Overall with up to 15 days of wear and 24 shades; it first won an Allure Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award in 2016.
  2. Dazzle Dry Truth System Kit dries in about five minutes and delivers up to two weeks of wear on hands and up to 30 days on toes, per nail artist Erica De Los Santos.
  3. Nail artists stress prep over formula: clean, alcohol-wiped nails, two thin coats and a rubberized base coat are key to longer wear.

Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish, $13, took Best Overall in Allure's 2026 roundup of long-lasting nail polishes, with testers and nail artists confirming wear of up to 15 days from a drugstore lacquer that requires no lamp.

The full list covers eight winners across categories: Essie Gel Couture ($13, Best Overall), Olive & June Long Lasting Nail Polish ($10, Best Shade Range), Manucurist Green Nail Polish ($14, Best for Beginners), Chillhouse Forever Wear Nail Polish ($12, Best One-Coat Color), Mooncat Lacquer (Best Special Effects), OPI Infinite Shine Gel-Like Lacquer (Best Gel-Like), Dazzle Dry Truth System Kit (Best Nail Polish Set) and CND Vinylux Long Wear Polish (Best Fast-Drying).

The case for the category is durability without gel's removal burden. "A long-lasting polish can give some clients up to two weeks of wear with a regular manicure," says Erica De Los Santos, a New Jersey and New York City-based nail artist and educator. "You're still getting the feel of a traditional manicure, just with better durability."

Essie's Gel Couture won an Allure Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award when it launched in 2016 and holds a 2025 Best of Beauty Award seal. New York City nail artists Julie Kandalec and Sonya Belakhlef count themselves fans of the 24-shade line. "The special bottle is shaped like a twisted gown on a runway and has a brush stem that controls the flow of polish," says Kandalec, naming 'Rock the Runway' among her go-to reds. Contributor Kara McGrath reports a minimum of five days of wear, up to eight, in two opaque coats.

Manucurist's Green Nail Polish, built on bio-sourced ingredients from potato, corn and sugarcane, earned Best for Beginners for a forgiving brush and streak-free application across more than 100 shades. Senior editor Jesa Marie Calaor calls the shade Bubble her default: "Just two coats of the stuff gives me an opaque, vibrant, streak-free manicure."

Chillhouse Forever Wear delivers one-coat saturation without a base coat and dries in about 10 minutes; designer Briana Rengifo got over a week of wear versus her usual five days. Mooncat took Best Special Effects for holographic, magnetic and multichrome finishes; commerce editor Sarah Han reports over a week of wear with minimal chipping when paired with the brand's topcoat.

Olive & June, the 2022 Best of Beauty winner for longwear polish, offers more than 100 shades and a built-in base coat. OPI Infinite Shine delivers a gel-like shine that removes with standard polish remover and lasts more than 11 days as part of its system. "This would be my first choice when longer wear is the main priority," says Beverly Hills-based nail artist Viktoriia Voloshyna.

Belakhlef guarantees 10 crack-free days from the Dazzle Dry system when directions are followed. "It has been a game changer for my clients who love getting regular manicures but want longer wear without switching to gel," says De Los Santos, citing five-minute drying, up to two weeks of wear on hands and up to 30 days on toes. CND Vinylux closes the list with an eight-minute dry time and no base coat required. "It is formulated to adhere to the natural nail directly, so no base coat is used like regular lacquer needs," says Kandalec.

Allure notes formula alone does not guarantee longevity. Nail artists point to prep as decisive: clean, dry, alcohol-wiped nail plates, thin coats and a rubberized base coat such as Orly Bonder. "Two thin coats are always better than one heavy coat," says Los Angeles-based nail educator Vikki Swan. With gel-adjacent performance now available at $10 to $14 per bottle, the pressure on salon gel manicures — and their removal ordeals — is set to grow.
