Dove has bottled the scent of its Original Beauty Bar and priced the fragrance at $20, a nod to 1957, the year the bar launched. The product, called Dove Original Fragrance, will sell exclusively through a one-time, limited-quantity online drop on October 27. A waitlist opened at 8 a.m. ET on October 22.

The brand calls it "the only fragrance you know before you even smell it." The line answers years of consumer demand. Dove says fans have spent years asking the brand — in comments, posts and direct messages — to bottle the bar's signature scent.

What does the fragrance actually smell like?

Fragrance developer Ann Gottlieb developed the scent. Gottlieb is a well-known name in the industry, credited with shaping major mainstream fragrances. The brief was literal: capture the unmistakable smell of the Original Beauty Bar.

The result is a soft, clean and comforting fragrance built for everyday wear. Dove positions it as the opposite of a statement perfume — closer to a portable just-showered feeling than an evening scent.

The packaging leans on the same nostalgia. The glass bottle takes the shape of the classic Dove Beauty Bar and carries a sculptural gold Dove bird cap. Dove frames it as a rare fragrance bottle that works on a vanity the way the bar works on the sink.

Why $20, and why no stores?

The price is deliberate. Dove set it at $20 as a throwback marker of 1957, when the Beauty Bar was born. The bar itself still costs $2 and has stayed a fixture in routines for nearly 70 years.

The distribution is the unusual part. Dove has no traditional retail launch planned. The fragrance will not appear on store shelves. Buyers must join the waitlist and purchase through the single October 27 drop, with limited quantities available.

That scarcity model mirrors recent limited-release strategies across beauty, where one-time online drops replace wide distribution to drive demand.

What does this change for buyers?

Anyone who wants the scent of a freshly unwrapped Dove bar now has one route: sign up on the waitlist before October 27 and buy during the drop. Miss it, and Dove has announced no restock or retail plan.

For Dove, the launch converts nearly seven decades of brand recognition and unpaid consumer demand into a direct-to-consumer fragrance business, at a mass-market price point that undercuts most celebrity and designer releases. Whether the one-time drop becomes a recurring fragrance line will depend on how the October 27 sell-through performs.
