Searches for "milky lilac nails" rose 425% in August and September 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, and "lilac dress styling" searches climbed 345%, according to Pinterest. The numbers upend a fall nail season normally owned by burgundy, espresso, and pumpkin spice.
"This signals that lilac is more than a fleeting seasonal shade," says Sydney Stanback, global head of trends and insights at Pinterest. The platform first saw the color build through spring and summer — an expected trajectory for a pastel. What surprised analysts was how strongly it held beyond that window.
New York City-based nail artist Miss Pop defines the shade as "where pastel purple meets pink." She sent sheer lilac pedicures down the runway at a recent LoveShackFancy show, where celebrities including Florence Pugh and Emilia Clarke walked the brand's navy carpet in the color. At the US Open, Tate McRae wore lilac-painted nails.
Beauty houses are following. Prada Beauty and Make Up For Ever have both rolled out fall collections built around the airy shade of purple.
Why a Spring Color Works in October
Los Angeles-based nail artist Sarah Chue frames lilac as a bridge shade for the seasonal transition — a way to keep vibrancy on the nails while shifting into cooler weather. "It's a much more toned-down and cool-toned color [compared to] summer's bright colors," she says.
Its subtlety drives the staying power. Chue calls lilac a "sweet spot between neutral and colorful," which makes it wearable for clients who want color without committing to a statement shade.
Four Ways Salons and Clients Are Wearing It
Lilac French tips. Swap the classic white tips of a French manicure for lilac. The single change elevates a minimalist look while keeping the clean, polished finish.
Florals. Lilac bushes may be gone for the year, but the blooms can live on the nail. Paint detailed florals with regular polish, or use 3D gel for a sculptural effect.
Gold studs and crystal clusters. The soft shade handles hardware. Tiny gold studs at the center of each nail keep the look simple; clustered crystals push it toward evening.
Cat-eye lilac. Pairing lilac with magnetic polish creates a velvet, light-catching finish. The cat-eye effect adds depth to a shade that might otherwise read flat.
With Prada Beauty and Make Up For Ever already shipping lilac in fall collections and Pinterest search volume still climbing into September, the shade looks positioned to carry through the holiday season rather than fade with the first frost.
