MAC Cosmetics priced its returning Frost Lipstick at $24 and tapped celebrity makeup artist Erin Parsons to lead the campaign. The relaunch revives three early-2000s shades alongside 10 new hues, marking MAC's latest heritage comeback.
What does the campaign look like?
Parsons joined MAC in 2000 as an artist. She now fronts the promotional push for the Y2K staple, an assignment rooted in her long history with the company.
"MAC is one of the most-collected brands in my archive because it means so much to me," Parsons said. "I worked with the brand for many years, and it has a special place in my heart—not only because it has the coolest makeup, but because MAC changed my life as an artist."
Parsons sits at the center of MAC's heritage storytelling. Her pro-artist roots give the Frost revival authenticity few outside ambassadors could provide. The campaign also celebrates frosted lips for a new generation, anchored in nostalgia around looks worn by Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.
How did Spanish Fly come back?
Parsons recalled the moment MAC executives informed her of the revival plan. "I started working for MAC in 2000, and that's where I got into makeup and became a makeup artist," she said. "I really treasure that time."
The conversation turned directly to Spanish Fly. "They started showing me the shades, and I said, 'You're bringing back Spanish Fly, right?'" Parsons said. "It was the most-liked comment on TikTok."
Parsons pushed for the shade directly with the brand's product team. "I told them, 'You have to bring back Spanish Fly—all the fans are going to want it,'" she said. "I think I'm the reason that shade came back, so you're welcome."
Which original shades return?
Three cult-favorite hues from the original Frost lineup return to shelves:
- Chintz — warm brown with gold pearl
- Jet — frosted black
- Spanish Fly — medium brown with a blue flip
Longtime fans drove demand for the returns through TikTok. Spanish Fly surfaced repeatedly in fan requests, Parsons confirmed.
What new shades join the lineup?
MAC added 10 new hues, broadening the Frost franchise beyond its brown-and-nude roots. The expansion spans from Teddy Metal, a light dusty neutral nude, to Sugar Baby, a blue-mauve pink. Parsons walks through the new collection in the campaign visuals.
How does the formula perform?
The formula matches the original cult-classic Frost Lipstick. Coverage sits at medium and builds with layering. Wearers can sheer it out for a wash of shimmer or push to full Y2K impact.
The finish reads semilustrous with high-pearl dimension, the brand confirmed. According to MAC's testing, 100 percent of panelists saw an immediate improvement in lip moisture. The shimmer applies weightlessly, the brand added, with no gritty glitter texture.
What does the relaunch signal for MAC?
The Frost revival hands MAC a heritage asset tied directly to its pro-artist roots. With Parsons fronting the campaign and Spanish Fly restored after a TikTok-driven fan push, the brand converts Y2K nostalgia into a measurable commercial moment.
