Skims is selling a $78 limited-edition Cryo Glow Globes set designed with makeup artist Jenny Patinkin, launching Thursday for the holiday season. The collaboration is the apparel brand's first with a skin care name — and, if industry chatter holds, not its last move into beauty.

Skims, cofounded by Kim Kardashian, Emma Grede and Jens Grede, launched its Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap last year and returned to beauty tools with this project. Patinkin codesigned the globes around what she calls her "lazy perfection" method.

"This is like no-brainer beauty tools," Patinkin told WWD. "I like products where you don't have to think too hard about it. It just does what it's supposed to do without a ton of effort."

How do the globes work?

The tools are hand-blown glass with special snowflakes inside and silicone stems. Users refrigerate them, lay them on ice or run them under cold water before using them in place of a face roller or gua sha. The cold temperature lasts roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

Patinkin describes a short routine: hold the globes under the eyes, tap, rock or glide them along the skin. No mirror, no prep product required.

"You even don't have to look in a mirror while you're using these, which to me is a mark of lazy perfection," she said. "You can just sit and hold them under your eyes."

The set targets puffiness and inflammation, she explained, and works for jawline sculpting and lymphatic drainage. On the science, Patinkin said the cold "creates a vasoconstriction response in the skin," which helps lock out redness.

"Then, when you pair that with the lymphatic drainage massage motions, where you're moving the excess fluid out to the lymph drainage points by the temples, the front of the ears, jawline and down the neck, you get that instant reduction in the appearance of puffiness, so you do look smoother and more taut and more lifted," she continued.

Is Skims building a beauty business?

The Patinkin collaboration is the first of what sources describe as many products to come. Skims is rumored to be developing its own fragrance and cosmetics line, though details remain undisclosed.

The expansion is likely being led by Diarrha N'Diaye, founder of Ami Colé, whom Skims appointed executive vice president of beauty and fragrance late last year.

For now, shoppers can buy the Cryo Glow Globes set on skims.com and jennypatinkin.com while supplies last. If the fragrance and cosmetics rumors prove true, this holiday drop will read as the first public step in Skims' transition from shapewear house to full-category beauty player.
