Angie Katsanevas wants Lunatic Fringe, the luxury salon brand she co-founded nearly three decades ago with her husband and business partner Shawn Trujillo, to become a household name across the United States.

The brand currently operates nine locations in three states and partners directly with Kérastase, positioning Katsanevas with a foot in both an independent luxury brand and a major global franchise system. "I'd love to see the brand continue to grow nationwide and be known for the super-premium, luxury salon experience it is," she told NewBeauty.

Now in her fifth season on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Katsanevas says the current chapter feels different from her first four. "I'm just a lot more unfiltered and more confident. I know my place in the group now. I have stronger bonds with the women. I feel more supported. I have real friendships in the group, which makes it easy to show up authentically," she said.

Her ambitions build on existing recognition. Lunatic Fringe received the Masters in Business award from the North American Hairstyling Awards in 2010, and Katsanevas wants to build on that to make the salon "cutting-edge, world-class and one of the best salons in the world." She also plans to continue evolving the Angie K brand in beauty.

The Routine Behind the Business

Katsanevas runs her days with military precision. She wakes at 6:30 a.m., starts with a collagen and protein drink, hydrates heavily—she calls it "super important for my skin"—and hits the gym. Breakfast never changes: eggs, avocado and berries, whether at home or in a restaurant.

After dropping off her daughter Elektra at school, she works through a to-do list divided into "have-to-dos" and "nice-to-dos," kept on her kitchen table. "There's actually something really satisfying about checking boxes—studies show it releases endorphins—so I have to check things off my list every day," she said.

Evenings follow the same structure. Elektra takes horseback-riding lessons about six days a week after school. Dinner at home is nearly nightly, usually fish five nights a week with a Greek salad. Then comes homework, laundry—Katsanevas steams all of Elektra's clothes—and a dog walk. Mother and daughter end the day in SKIMS pajamas with a shared skin-care routine.

How Motherhood Changed the Salon Culture

Katsanevas started working at 15 and, before having her daughter, says all she did was work. Having Elektra at age 37 reset her priorities and her management style.

"Becoming a mother helped me realize how I can better support the parents who work at our salon so they can have a thriving career while still being present for their families. I didn't really understand balance before Elektra," she said.

She now builds flexibility into scheduling for team members with children at home, allowing early departures or later starts. "I want the mothers and fathers on our team to have that balance—to have longevity, enjoy their lives and not work themselves away," she said.

Greek Heritage as a Business Blueprint

Katsanevas credits her Greek upbringing for the hospitality culture at Lunatic Fringe. "Greeks are very hospitable people. You never meet a stranger. When they walk into my business, our guests know me because I connect with them as if I were welcoming them into my home," she said, adding that she always offers guests a coffee, water or snack with direct eye contact and attention.

Her grandfather's advice still guides her: "Your reputation is all you have." She describes honesty, integrity and treating people like family as central to her success.

Her heritage also shaped her style. Raised by an immigrant family that attended church on Sundays and valued appearance and manners, she learned early to take pride in how she presented herself. On the show, she pushes fashion further than the salon's black dress code allows. "I've always loved fashion, and I've always loved to take risks," she said, recalling that she always had the most cutting-edge haircut or platform shoes before anyone else. "I was never afraid to do something first."

The Product She's Used for 30 Years

Her one must-have hair product is Kérastase's Mousse Bouffante ($42), which she has used for three decades. "It gives you volume and hold, while still letting your hair move and stay soft," she said. "Fuller hair is coming back right now, and this creates shine, volume and hold without sacrificing movement. It's clearly the best."

Beyond Housewives

Katsanevas also has a non-beauty project in mind: a Greek cookbook, provisionally titled Secret Recipes of a Real Greek Housewife. She wants it to include family recipes gathered from relatives in small Greek villages, paired with the traditions and stories behind them.

She describes her current moment as a new phase. "I can feel I'm in a new state of becoming, so I'm excited to see what comes next," she said.
