Barefaced Rx goes live Thursday, marking skin care brand Barefaced's first move into personalized prescription treatment and turning a plan its founder has held since 2021 into a live platform.

The launch gives Barefaced, founded by nurse practitioner Jordan Harper, a prescription arm to sit alongside its over-the-counter line — a combination Harper argues most competitors lack.

"This is truly a dream," Harper said in an interview. She first tried to build the offering in 2021, but rapid growth at Barefaced made the expansion difficult at the time.

What does Barefaced Rx treat?

The platform covers a wide span of skin concerns, all handled through clinician-guided prescription treatment:

  • acne and breakouts
  • redness and inflammation
  • pigmentation and tone
  • skin aging
  • menopause and hormonal skin changes
  • targeted eye care
  • body care and brightening

How does the platform work?

Patients start with an online survey covering their skin concerns, history, current routine and goals. A clinician licensed in the patient's state reviews the intake. When prescription treatment is appropriate, that clinician determines the treatment plan and the formula.

Treatment ships directly to the patient. Ongoing care runs through secure messaging, and patients can adjust their treatment as their skin evolves.

Why Harper built an Rx-plus-OTC model

Harper draws directly on her clinical background in framing the launch.

"From my experience as a nurse practitioner, there is a percentage of patients that are going to benefit from prescription products. Now, it's not everyone, but I do," she said.

She positioned the dual model as a deliberate break from how most skin care companies operate.

"Most brands are just an RX platform or just an over-the-counter platform. That's their thing. But for me, I wanted to make sure that we can fully offer our patients a solution for their skin, no matter where they are," Harper said.

What does it cost?

Barefaced Rx runs on a cash-pay model. The intake is free, with no membership fee and no consultation fee, and treatment is delivered directly to the patient.

Is retail next?

The platform is online only at launch. Harper already sees physical retail in its future — either through a pop-up or a more permanent presence in a couple of key cities.

For a brand that scaled too fast in 2021 to attempt prescriptions, the debut closes a four-year gap between the founder's original plan and its execution.
