Harper's Bazaar has named 12 blurring lipsticks as the fast track to the viral blurred-lip look, from Dior's Rouge Dior On Stage Ink Blur Matte to Refy's Lip Blur, no liner required. The magazine's editors declare the blurred lip "a viral trend that's here to stay," having tracked it on Zoë Kravitz, Hailey Bieber and Sarah Pigeon at the 2026 Met Gala, and on Sadie Sink during her press tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

What is the technique?

The classic method takes two steps. Draw one or more lip liner shades over the Cupid's bow, then feather them out as a base shadow to shape the contour. Then place a high concentration of color in the center of the lip for a "just bitten" finish. A quick stipple with a finger pushes the central color toward the corners and blends harsh lines.

Makeup artist Nina Park, who created Sink's look, previously told Bazaar: "I wanted the lip color to feel soft and understated but still grounding. A soft deep coral added just enough warmth to complement the cool tones while keeping the overall look fresh, elegant, and effortless."

Which single-step products made the list?

Bazaar's picks span matte, balm and satin finishes:

  • Dior Rouge Dior On Stage Ink Blur Matte — long-lasting and transfer-proof, with pomegranate flower extract, peony extract and a subtle plumping effect.
  • Merit Beauty — a lightweight, buildable formula with a soft-focus finish and a barely-there feel.
  • Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder — a two-in-one for lips and cheeks, powered by upsalite to minimize texture and absorb oil and sweat.
  • Chanel dual-ended liquid lip color in 186 Pink Nude — paired with Le Crayon Lèvres in Nude Brun, it recreated Jessie Buckley's pinky-nude lip at the 2026 Golden Globes; a film-forming agent makes it transfer-proof and waterproof.
  • Glow Recipe's new balm — vegan, infused with PDRN, hyaluronic acid and red microalgae, inspired by the Korean soft-blur trend, aiming to improve lip barrier health.
  • Refy Lip Blur — Bazaar suggests two shades, one for contour and one for color; the domed tip blurs on contact with a soft-matte finish that enhances fullness.
  • Guerlain Kiss Kiss Blur Matte Long-Wearing Lipstick — nearly five stars from Sephora customers, with honey, royal jelly and propolis extract, up to 24 hours of both moisture and blur.
  • Hourglass Phantom Blur Balm and Hince — a velvet matte, semi-sheer formula that layers easily and looks better after a fingertip pat.

How do the pros do it?

Celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips lined Hailey Bieber's lips with two shades of m.ph by Mary Phillips's The Overliner pencil, Tease and French Exit, then buffed the edges for a diffused finish. "Start in the corner of the mouth and go right on the perimeter of the lip," Phillips says in a tutorial. She layered her brand's buildable lipstick balm in Tickled Pink, concentrating color at the center. "And I always like to pat it in," she notes. "It gives it a little bit more of a realistic look."

Not every pick is matte. After defining Emma Stone's lips with a cool rosy-brown pencil for the 2026 Oscars, Park finished with Louis Vuitton's LV Rouge Satin Lipstick in shade 102 Passport to Paris.

Why sheer beats stark in cold months?

Darker shades dominate fall and winter, but experts favor a sheerer take. "Brown can feel incredibly sophisticated, but when you wear it sheer and blurred, suddenly, it becomes very relaxed and easy," explains celebrity makeup artist and Violette_FR founder Violette Serrat. "It gives the face something without looking like you tried too hard."

Bazaar's beauty market and commerce editor Katie Intner backs the category's staying power: "The pigmented lipstick is like a filter for the lips with a mousse-like texture that glides onto lips and smooths out any lines," she says of the Hourglass balm, which she wears at night because it lasts for hours.

With formulas now handling the blur themselves, the liner-and-finger routine is becoming optional rather than essential.
