Glow Recipe will sell a $38 limited-edition lip balm duo inspired by Buldak's spicy noodle sauces, debuting Thursday exclusively on TikTok Shop.
The skin care brand partnered with Buldak, the Korean spicy noodle line owned by Samyang Foods, on two tinted versions of its Glass Balm. The shades reference Buldak's most popular sauces: Original and Carbonara.
The rollout continues to Sephora's e-commerce site on Oct. 23 and to stores on Nov. 2. TikTok Shop gets the launch first, a fitting choice given where both brands built their audiences.
"For us, this collaboration is a love letter to the foods we grew up with and the culture and global community that shaped us," said Christine Chang, who cofounded Glow Recipe and serves as co-chief executive officer alongside Sarah Lee. Both are Korean-American.
Why TikTok comes first?
The numbers explain the sequencing. Buldak counts 2.3 million followers on TikTok and has sold more than 92,000 products via TikTok Shop. Glow Recipe, social-savvy since its founding in 2014, has 1.9 million followers and has moved roughly 123,000 products through the app.
Buldak's U.S. popularity keeps climbing, driven largely by social platforms. The brand has become an online sensation through viral challenges and food content.
"[Buldak] has been one of the most impactful examples of Korean culture traveling the world through shared experience and social conversation," said Lee. "We feel that there are parallels to how Glow Recipe grew, from bringing Korean beauty to the U.S. to building a community that turned our skin care products into cult favorites."
What does this change for food-beauty crossovers?
The deal extends a category that has accelerated alongside Korean beauty's rise in the U.S. Recent pairings show the range:
- Bag Balm x Fishwife, a limited-edition collection and packaging tied to the tinned fish brand, launched earlier this month.
- Auntie Anne's released an eau de parfum.
- Chipotle partnered with Wonderskin on a lip stain.
- Bubble and Poppi launched soda-inspired lip balms.
Glow Recipe pushes the formula further by grounding the partnership in shared Korean heritage rather than novelty alone. That framing gives the collaboration cultural weight that earlier stunts lacked, and it positions both brands to convert an overlapping TikTok audience into buyers.
"Buldak has grown into far more than a food brand. Our fans have turned it into a culture of its own. Partnering with Glow Recipe lets us meet that community in a completely new space," said Abbas Arslan, vice president of marketing for Buldak.
He framed the deal as expansion beyond food. "For us, this is about growing Buldak as a lifestyle brand and reaching new audiences where they already are."
The Thursday TikTok Shop debut will test whether a noodle-sauce lip balm can convert viral attention into Sephora-bound demand.
