Daisy Toye has spent more than two decades as Martha Stewart's personal makeup artist and confidante. Now she joins the cast of The Real Housewives of New York City for Season 16 as its newest Housewife.

Toye built her career on trust. That trust anchors her long working relationship with Stewart. "It has definitely evolved over the years, and Martha trusts me to do what I want," Toye told NewBeauty. "We've worked together for so long that there's a real trust there, and I know what works for her."

The move to reality television forced an unfamiliar role reversal. After years behind the scenes checking lighting and angles for someone else, Toye found herself in front of the camera. The shift left her exposed, she said.

"I was definitely vulnerable," Toye said. "I'm always on the other side checking the lighting, checking the angles and making sure everything looks right, so it was very different for me to have to trust the cinematographers."

The new job has already changed her professional kit usage. Asked whether her own beauty routine changed once she knew she'd be filming, Toye answered plainly: "Definitely more pressed powder than I ever imagined!"

Her no-makeup, day-off routine is less about products and more about habits. "Cooking dinner in the morning, convincing myself to go to a workout class, and usually making some sort of purchase," she described.

Toye is a born-and-raised New Yorker with a self-proclaimed taste for shopping. Beyond the two labels most viewers will know her by—"Martha Stewart's makeup artist" and "the new RHONY cast member"—she wants audiences to understand her roots.

"I'm a born-and-raised New Yorker who loves fashion and making other people look great—even complete strangers," she said. "I love my family, and cooking is a huge passion of mine."

The season also brings personal stakes. Toye's professional demands begin to strain her marriage, a storyline that will unfold as episodes air.

For viewers, Toye points to the cast chemistry as the season's draw. "I'm most excited for people to see the dynamic between all of the girls," she said. "We're all very different, which makes it amazing, fun and unpredictable."

For a makeup artist who has controlled every angle for twenty years, Season 16 will test how she handles a camera she cannot direct.
