Zara Larsson Goes Pink-Haired for Allure Cover, Wigs Included
Zara Larsson wears dusty pink and platinum wigs on her Allure cover, styled by Iggy Rosales from a moodboard of modern '50s pinup and 2000s influence.
Zara Larsson swapped her signature bright golden blonde for platinum and pink wigs on her new Allure cover, and hairstylist Iggy Rosales says the shade was on the moodboard from day one.
"Zara just makes sense as a pink-haired girl," Rosales tells Allure. "It was part of the moodboard from the beginning."
The cover shoot paired Larsson's pink hair with a wardrobe shift too. Known for neon aqua blues, purples and Barbie pink in both makeup and clothing, the singer wore metallic silver and minimalist black and white for the Hugo Comte-photographed shoot, keeping pink strictly above the shoulders.
The creative direction drew from two decades at once. According to Rosales, who worked with Larsson and makeup artist Sophia Sinot, the moodboard was based on "a modern '50s pinup with a bit of a 2000s influence: sexy, playful and a little fantasy." Rosales credited Comte's "specific eye for color and how everything comes together in an image" and said he, Sinot and stylist Ronald Burton III tested several color combinations during the shoot.
For the hair, the team stayed disciplined: platinum and pink, no detours. Rosales came prepared with roughly a dozen options. "We liked the slightly more muted, dusty pinks, but I still brought about 10 or 12 wigs in different shades so we could try them," he explains. "Once we saw them on Zara, we gravitated towards the sleeker, more graphic shapes. The soft pink and platinum worked really well against those sharper shapes."
Larsson wears three pink looks across the shoot. One is a center-parted lob in a salmon hue. Another is a choppy, chin-length lob with long bangs. The third is a jawline-skimming blonde crop that fades into the subtlest blush of baby pink.
Rosales's favorite is the pink bob with bangs—the style Larsson wears on the in-motion cover—because it is "a different look for her, but it feels so Zara."
He also credited the singer's willingness to experiment for the shoot's range. "Zara was super down to experiment, which is what makes shoots like this so fun," Rosales said. "Having the freedom to step outside someone's usual look keeps things inspiring. You never know what you'll end up loving!"
For Larsson, the cover extends an aesthetic she has already built around her album Midnight Sun. She told Allure she loves seeing fans arrive at her shows in colorful, glittery makeup, a sign that the album's visual world has traveled from stage to audience.
"It makes me so fucking happy to look out into the crowd or even in my tagged photos on Instagram, and I see that people do the makeup—they wear the glitter, they have a little dolphin," she shared. "People are tapped into the artistry of it."
